This week, we learn more about Chequetta Dessources, Vice President Procurement – Americas Hotel Supply Chain at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
"The Let Them Theory" by Mel Robbins. It reinforced something I’ve been learning as a leader: you can’t control other people’s opinions or behaviors, only how you respond. It’s been a great reminder to focus my energy where it has the biggest impact.

What do you love most about the industry?
Hospitality is ultimately about people. Procurement may sit behind the scenes, but every decision we make helps create better experiences for hotel owners, operators and guests. I love solving complex problems while knowing the work we do ultimately shapes the guest experience.

What is something the community may be surprised to learn about you?
Most people assume I always knew I wanted to work in procurement. I actually thought I’d become either a lawyer or a CPA. It took exploring different roles in finance and operations before I found a career that combined strategy, analytics, negotiation and relationship building. Looking back, every step prepared me for where I am today.

What’s the toughest part of being in charge?
Making decisions that won’t make everyone happy. Leadership isn’t about consensus; it’s about making thoughtful decisions with imperfect information, listening to different perspectives and having the courage to own the outcome.

What are your non-negotiables when it comes to work-life balance?
Family comes first. I’ve learned that success isn’t sustainable if it comes at the expense of your health or your relationships. I work hard, but I also believe we should work to live, not live to work.

What woman inspires you right now and why?
Rosalind Brewer continues to inspire me. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated that you can lead with authenticity, integrity and empathy while delivering exceptional business results. As a Black woman leading at the highest levels of corporate America, she has opened doors for others and shown that inclusive leadership and high performance go hand in hand. That’s the kind of leader I aspire to be.
